Are you worried about your child’s language development?
Language delay is a common cause of frustration and meltdowns for young children who are struggling to communicate. The “Wait and See” approach squanders valuable time, as your child slips further behind with each passing day.
One in 12 children need speech and language intervention. Waiting for the Kindergarten teacher to point out red flags can make for an unpleasant educational experience for your son or daughter.
Advocating for services early can jumpstart progress and secure accommodations so that the transition to Kindergarten is easier. This will prepare your child to enjoy school when it’s time to go.
Would it be easier if your child could talk?
Courtney, mom of Matthew who is 22 months old, is frightened that Matthew is not talking as much as he should be. She often compares Matthew to her friend’s children or kids she sees at the park.
Matthew can be tough to handle at times, as he will have a tantrum in the middle of the supermarket. Courtney tries to help calm Matthew, but she can’t make sense of what he needs. Courtney feels the stares from other people and has to leave the full cart behind to head for the car.
Feeling helpless that Matthew isn’t able to say what he wants or that he can’t understand her explanation, Courtney often avoids leaving the house with Matthew and feels guilty declining party invitations.
Her mother says Matthew will grow out of it, but Courtney believes there is more she can do for her son; she just doesn’t know what.
When your child loves to talk… but others have difficulty understanding…
Olivia is an eight-year-old girl who loves to talk. When she is at school, her peers will sometimes poke fun when she introduces herself as “O-wee-bia.” Feeling upset and frustrated, Olivia cries and refuses to interact with anyone other than her best friend, who always understands her.
During a parent-teacher conference, Olivia’s teacher commented that it’s difficult to understand her when she participates in class discussions.
Does Olivia sound like your child? Articulation therapy can help teach the proper way to make speech sounds that are challenging for the child. Certain speech sounds are later developing sound; however, new research shows that working on these sounds early leads to faster improvement.
Articulation therapy is my passion. I enjoy teasing out the difficult sounds and helping the child finally master it. It sounds simple, but it’s a delicate individualized process.
My successes helping children support my belief that I can help your child.
Over the past 12 years, I have helped hundreds of children communicate better with their parents, teachers, and peers.
Speech therapy isn’t just working with the child. Using a family approach, I teach strategies for language building at home which helps the child generalize and make faster progress.
I have assisted children in finally producing their S, R, L sounds after years of not being able to form them. I have helped children find their words so that their voice can be heard in the world.
I’d love the opportunity to help your child communicate better.
Hi, I’m Amy.
I recognize the importance of child-centered, speech-language therapy, which inspires me to create strong and long-lasting bonds with each of my clients.
It’s a privilege to serve the community of Yorktown Heights and surrounding neighborhoods by providing speech-language therapy through evidence-based practices to promote success.
My favorite part of my job is helping children find their voice in the world. Your child is in good hands working with me.
As a licensed and certified Speech-Language Pathologist, I offer excellent intervention to meet my client’s needs with in-home Speech Therapy. This means that I conduct the treatment session in your home, the natural environment for your child. Another bonus is that you can be present for the session so that you can learn how to best support your child’s needs after the session is over.
I am a Speech-Language Pathologist and a mom of three boys; I fully understand the emotions that come along with this process. I’ve walked the same path you are on when my children needed special services.
Finding the right therapist is crucial to help your child learn how to communicate and also teach you effective strategies for supporting your child along the way. Having my doctorate in Speech-Language Pathology has helped me fuse together my experience and newest research to create the most successful approach for your child.
